The script is one dimensional unfortunately -- melodramatic without substance. Hester and Freddie's relationship does not come across. Hester is obsessed with Freddie to make the film dramatic. It's contrived.

Agreed. Rattigan was in favor in the 1950s and then he went out of favor and has recently come back into favor (audiences and critics are so fickle). Depressing but for me the working definition of a horror film -- i.e., what others go to Steven King, et. al for. Imagining myself in her position -- an enveloping obsession in an intelligent person who can neither fully grasp much less control -- is truly horrifying. And her speaking parts ...Read more

Although well made and acted, I was left unsatisfied. I have not seen the play, but the description of the plot in wikipedia differs slightly and importantly in its resolution, and so the play might make more emotional sense.
