a film about the spectacle and carnival of creativity.. shot in black and white along with metaphorical shadows...amazing. This film is not for those with limited exposure and curiosity of European culture (stick to strip malls and super hero films)

doesnt get much more pretentious than this, yikes

yes, it would seem pretentious to someone with a rudimentary understanding of either English or Italian.

This Fellini movie was kind of one I always wanted to see -- I found myself skipping thru a lot of the movie -- not my favorite Fellini.

A favourite scene for me is the director trying to endure the tiresome autopsy of a script by a pedantic academic and all the while Guido looks like he'd rather stab his own eyes out with a fork. All Guido wants to do is make a movie. It's too bad that Fellini has been co-opted by film ...Read more

I don't see the point in this movie. BUT. It's a classic. And i knew that going in. SO, I'm gonna watch it again with Buster soon. In the meantime, I have some researching to do. Classic.

Best film in history of cinema; ranks with the great works of Proust, Picasso and Joyce. Perhaps not only among the greatest art of the 20th C., but possibly in the history of Western Civilization.

Who is Joyce

Brandon avatar

James Joyce...and i don't really think this movie quite comes within a lightyear to Ulysses or Finnegans Wake but i dont want to get into that here. it is a masterpiece of film. also there is no such thing as the best film ever made there are transcendent works of art and no need to rank them ...Read more

Not that I know Italian, but the audio is not in sync with the actors' mouths.

I believe that its just the fact that the entire film was dubbed in post, as was most Italian cinema up to this point

I knew the dialogue was all dubbed post-production, but the sync issue I thought may have been from streaming. Customer service let me know that the sync issue was there from the original print. All good.

I wonder if Criterion Collection got the audio in-sync.

I was wondering the same thing.

Doubt it considering Fellini specifically had the actors mouthing random lines and would create the dialogue in post.
